New York Day Two
All praise air conditioning.
Awakening in the first of two AirBnB’s in New York, we opened our curtain to this lovely view of our hosts garden.
Loveliest AirBnB.
The mini fridge in our room was laid out with our breakfast we had prepared earlier, interesting yoghurts, strawberries, and (of course) iced tea.
We packed our bags, starting to get very strategic with our new purchases filling up space and headed to the train station.
Interesting tile work in each station.
Impressively we managed to make the 15 min walk in 30 degree heat and arrive intact. However, I do think we left a snail trail of sweat along the way. Waiting for a while in the heat and finishing off our iced tea, we hopped on the train at midday.
View from the train window.
It look us just under an hour to get into the heart of New York, transfering once where we spotted these cool little statues dotted throughout the stations.
Alligator in the sewer.
Jordan trying to become one with the statue.
Deciding it was definitely time for some lunch, we headed into a New York staple, Shake Shack.
Mushroom burger, cheese fries, and a berry custard dessert.
Popping on the subway once again we headed towards our next AirBnB to get rid of the pesky backpacks. Luckily for us, Central Park is just a few minutes walk.
Trying to keep up the water consumption.
The park was busy with people dozing in the shade, wandering in the shade, and most impressively running less in the shade. There were also stacks of bikes you could hire for biking round the park and city, however, no helmets. Given Jordan’s track record for not staying on the track while biking, we decided against multiple injuries.
Rumbling stomachs heralded dinner time.
Jordan getting ready to rip into some sushi.
We found an awesome completely plant based sushi restaurant for dinner. The mushroom sushi was excellent, definitely the best vegetarian sushi.
Since New York is the city that never sleeps, we still had plenty of time to wander.
Hitting up Times Square, we found thousands of people and more importantly the M&M store.
About to take all the interesting flavours.
The whole street was packed with different shops, mainly tourist and big name chains. Since we were tourists we decided we might as well go full hog and go into Ripley’s Believe It or Not.
Possibly mildly inaccurate with the research accompanying the exhibits, it was however interesting as there’s definitely not anything like this in New Zealand.
Seth looking worried at the Hissing Cockroaches.
Starting to get dozy we decided it was time to head back. Of course, we needed a quick pick me up of a New York slice for energy.
Seth looking delighted.
Super cheesy, we noticed something in the background lurking as we enjoyed our snack.
Don’t forget your information leaflet!
On that note it was bedtime, catching the subway back to the apartment, we are ready for a good nights sleep.
