Chicago Day Four
Both Seth and I started off today with a well deserved sleep-in, providing us a chance to feel human once more. After a quick breakfast of rockmelon, which was incredibly juicy and tasting like honey, we chugged down some water knowing full well that it was going to reach 31 degrees.
With some thought we picked up a transport pass for the next three days, hopped on the blue line train and went off into the city. Already a muggy day, getting on that train was a sweet relief from the heavy air, hitting a wall of cool was almost a highlight of the day. Hopping off at the Monroe exit, we made our way towards the shoe store.
Jordan shoe time! Which failed miserably. Which I regret after a day of walking.
Trying to find the perfect shoe which can withstand walking for many hours a day in, which also are good for hot weather, that can be dressed up or down for different occasions, that fits in a backpack. Let me know if anyone finds them.
Unfazed we called it quits and headed to our lunch choice, a vegan restaurant called Native Foods. It was excellent being able to have our pick of anything on the menu, with Seth choosing a jalapenos burger, and myself, a budda bowl with “southern fried chicken”. Finally getting some veges in was excellent, not even minding the zuchinni… too much. Best part though were the free refills! With watermelon juice, iced peach tea, iced berry tea, iced green tea (all unsweetend), and lavender lemonaide, I think we both drank our weight in liquids. The best part of America (in my opinion) is the cold unsweetend tea.
Jordan ready to fall head first into her food.
After doing some quick navigation, we headed towards Millenium Park, stopping off at Buckingham Fountain.
View of Chicago looking away from the fountain.
Buckingham Fountain itself.
A massive fountain, it will be fun to see it’s namesake in a few weeks! It is one of a few attractions near the lake edge, we weren’t the only tourists there either. Asked to take pictures of a few people as well as being asked for directions, unfortunately we were just as lost as them.
Wandering along the water’s edge, the sun was 100% getting to us. So after a quick stop for an ice cream or two, we made our way to Cloud Gate aka The Bean, a iconic sculture in the middle of the park.
The Bean in all its glory.
Brownie points if you manage to spot us in the reflections. Good luck, you’ll need it. Impressed by the relective quality of it, we wondered who came round and wipped off the fingerprints people put up each day.
Inside The Bean.
Many things were happening today, with a dance festival kicking off in the park. Spotting a few line dances, hiphop groups, as well as interpretive dancers seen below.
Everyone checking out some sick moves.
What is not pictured here is moments later Jordan freaking out over ten or so hornets darting around a puddle…
Reflective surfaces are here to stay.
Heading out towards the Magnificent Mile with shopping in mind (and selfies apparently), we stumble across an interesting set of art pieces, which made sculpture out of donated food cans.

Definitely getting to that heat exhaustion stage, we caught the blue line back towards Greektown for the festival.

While there were many interesting stalls here, they were mainly meat based. So instead after smelling the bbq/smoke air we headed back to our apartement for a quick seista before heading out for tacos for dinner.
Plans for tomorrow seem to be heading towards the zoo!
